Official selection: 1987 Group of Six Universities Gala, World Trade and Convention Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

At left are some frames from Beacon (1987), a video assignment completed while at NSCAD. The task was to create a video that was self-referential - it was to refer to the techniques and technology used to create television. I responded by diving into the electronic guts of a broadcast video playback machine.

I chose the title "Beacon" for its association both as a signal (video) and its connotation of a guiding light (to draw towards).

While an educational assignment, Beacon is still a favourite of mine. In addition, it was chosen to singly represent NSCAD at a ceremonial Gala held in 1987 with the other five Halifax universities.
