At left are some frames from Beacon (1987), a video assignment completed while at NSCAD. The task was to create a video that was self-referential - it was to refer to the techniques and technology used to create television. I responded by diving into the electronic guts of a broadcast video playback machine.

I chose the title "Beacon" for its association both as a signal (video) and its connotation of a guiding light (to draw towards).

While simply an educational assignment, Beacon is still a favorite of mine. In addition, it was chosen to singly represent NSCAD at a ceremonial Gala held in 1988 with the other six Halifax universities.
